Complex Heart Repairs

Some heart conditions demand an extra level of skill and precision.  At Morristown Memorial, surgeons perform more complex heart surgeries than anywhere else in the state.

  • Post Infarction Ventricular Septal Defect – Damage to the heart muscle occurs during a heart attack. Surgery repairs the weakened section of the heart to prevent rupture and help the muscle contract once again.

  • Repair Adult Congenital Heart Disease, over 15 years of age – Sometimes heart defects that have been present since birth do not cause problems until late in a person’s life.  These can include atrial septal defect, patent foramen ovale, and congenitally bicuspid aortic valve.

  • Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator (ICD) Implants – Implantable cardiac defibrillators are placed under the skin to regulate heart rhythm, and the speed and pattern of the heartbeat. An ICD works by sending out a series of pulses to regulate the rhythm. If the pulses do not work, the ICD can send shocks of varying intensity to the heart.
